Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

We went here once the weekend they opened and returned this evening. My husband really wanted pizza, and instead of going to Black Sheep we thought we would give Rival a shot . They did a nice job finishing the space, but we are reviewing the food and service. My husband ordered a beer, it seemed like it was in a really small glass for a basic beer. I asked the waitress for her recommendation between the ribs appetizer and bahn mi pizza - her response "i haven't tried either, get the Bain mi it's bigger." Umm ok... Order the pizzas, and watch them sit on the pass for 10+ minutes. Several employees walked by the pizzas, and our table with empty water glasses. Needless to say bad service and luke warm pizza was disappointing.

My wife and I were hungry in St Paul and I had heard good things about The Rival House. We sat at the bar and the bartender was super cool and refilled her soda often. Lots of TVs lined the walls and they had pinball machines and skee ball in there if that is your deal. I ordered a Surly and the Cuban Reuben. Soooooo good. Really lucious pork and ham with a 1000 island dressing that was PERFECT. If I had a complaint, it would be that the bread was too buttery. #Edinaproblems. An awesome place that was fun to eat at.

I was excited to see Graves running a place In downtown saint Paul. St Paul desperately needs a good bar. Unfortunately this does not even come close to a Graves place. Every time we come for happy hour the host is very upset that we don't know our exact head count. Sorry guys that's how happy hours work get used to it. The wait service also does not shine. The service is slow despite them being over staffed on a light night. The pizzas are actually really good but that doesn't really change my complaints. It needs to live up to the Graves name. The manager did stop by our table and it seemed like he had some real personality. Maybe that guy can turn things around.

I used to really like this place, but in the last 2 months the beer selection and food seems to have gone downhill. Not sure if they changed the pizza crust recipe, but it seems quite different. The new general manager isn't as good as the old one and I'm not sure why they didn't just promote the other manager. Sorry to say I do not think I will be back.

Ping pong, table tennis, whatever you call it, I'll keep coming back for it. Everything else about Rival House, well, I've got no complaints nor nothing I'll be singing from the rooftops about. First of all, Rival House is a welcome addition to this part of downtown St. Paul. The surrounding area, which is a no man's land between Lowertown and West 7th, is the epitome of downtown St. Paul's reputation for being a ghost town after the nine-to-fivers roll out. That said, Rival House has a pretty good tap list and the food isn't bad, but it's nothing remarkable (which is somewhat disappointing after touting their ties to the temporarily shuttered Bradstreet Crafthouse and requiring beer training for all their staff during their opening days). Come hungry and/or thirsty and you'll likely leave satisfied - it's sports bar grub taken up a bit with the help of a wood-fired oven. All things considered, any place I can play life size Jenga, catch the game, grab a good local pint and play some pong is doing just fine in my book.

I came here with a coworker for dinner on a Monday night. It was that crowded but man the service was lacking... The owner, i think it was or the gm, was better than our actual server. It took us 30 minutes to be able to order our food even though we were ready to order within the first 10 mins. We did order some beers and when we got those the owner brought over complimentary deviled eggs. Those were absolutely delicious! Once we ordered our food, it did take a while to get our food but it was worth the wait. I ordered the Jamaican Jerk Pork Pizza. It was so unique, delicious, and got spicier with every bite! My coworker ordered the Pesto Chicken Pizza. We switched a slice and I am glad we did. His was just as good. Mine was more refreshing and his was heavy but filling. Great food, great owner, bad service...

We went to Rival House before the Sam Smith concert in February. We had read the earlier reviews about good food but poor lunch service. Thinking that it was during the dinner hour, we figured the service would be improved. Plus, they boasted a quality beer menu, Red Wagon pizzas, and they are sister bars with Bradstreet Crafthouse (all favorites of ours). We were correct about the service. Our waitress was great! Friendly, attentive but not pushy, gave quality recommendations, and was prompt with requests. The food, however, was not the best. It wasn't horrible, mind you, but I don't think I could suggest this place for a meal when their are so many other options in the area. The Twin Cities food scene has stepped up its game in the past few years and I just don't think there is room for mediocrity. Also, didn't matter to us, but this is essentially a hotel bar. It is located on the ground level of the St. Paul Doubletree.

Burger and sandwiches meat was burned, taste doesn't great. They also doesn't offer wheat bread for sandwich. Their fries taste worst. It gave my friend and I disappointed. Replaced to pizza, still not great. Because it's so salty. I will not come back for sure, because rival house actually gave me lost appetite.

So this is the third time we have been here. The service has been really poor each time. Tonight our server would not stop at our table, and we had no interaction from the staff for over a half hour. I was politely trying to make eye contact, and eventually I had to wave. The food is ok. Pizza is like pizza ranch with better ingredients. Twice fried wings are black and taste carbon rich. The deviled eggs were very good, however. The service makes it so hard to want to eat here. At the end of the day, this is a hotel bar with games for adults. You will hear a random crash followed closely by screams from the jumbo JENGA game. That crashing sound echoes my feelings about this place.

They will get there, I'm sure. I suspect that I'll be updating my review after going there a few more times. I was there with my partner on one of the very first nights it was open and enjoyed a Saint Paul Flight. I don't normally like fights since I don't think I get a fair taste of beer before confusing my pallet with something different. I quite liked the map of Saint Paul that it comes on, though. Next time I'm there I may order the Minneapolis flight just so I can see the other map. The gimmick totally worked on me. The pizza was cold and I wish there were more vegetarian options. My vegan companion ordered the Greek pizza with no cheese which seemed good and would have been better if it was served hot. I ordered the Bahn Mi pizza and can't recommend it. Not yummy. Perhaps that was due to ordering it with no meat. It could be that missing element skewed it in a negative place, but if there were more veggie options on the menu I wouldn't have needed to go modifying the order. It was also cold. We also ordered the barrel of pickles which does not come in a barrel shaped container. It is a smallish bowl of the exact same pickled items that I had on my Bahn Mi pizza. Disappointing. They have a great space with a lot to do. Ping-Pong, skee-ball, loads of board games, and a full bar. Once they work out the kinks in the kitchen and I learn what to order and what not to order (never again will I be temped by the non-barrel shaped barrel of pickles), I'm sure they will get another star from me.

Visited there for lunch today. Second visit so far. The good: - The space is nice - The pizzas are decent, had them the first visit - They have a good beer selection, but this didn't matter for lunch on a weekday The bad: - All three non-pizza dishes we ordered were not good - Fish and chips were oily and flavorless, and not even salted, and came with a really uninspired spicy tartar sauce which they forgot to bring at first - Flat iron steak was very mediocre tasting, cooked almost well when i asked for medium rare, and served in a sauce which didn't compliment it at all. Fries served with it were generic. - Outside of pizza, they have very little on the menu that even looked good The ugly: - Awful service. people running around like they had something better to do, and our original waitress talked to us once. Arrived at 11:45am, didn't leave til 1:05pm and 15 minutes of this time was spent eating, the rest was spent WAITING. We were ignored by so many waitstaff that were running somewhere else. - Each of us had an item that was missing basic things like the tartar sauce for the fish and chips, how does a dish make it from the kitchen without being checked? - Took 10 minutes just to get the credit card ran because our waitress was too busy not caring In summary.. We may be back here one more time for some pizza or a beer at happy hour, but this place is a major disappointment and clearly needs better management.

We decided to try this restaurant out for lunch. Two of us had the Italian sandwich with fries. It was a nicely prepared Italian sliced meat sandwich, with quality cheese and meat. Fries were nice thin cut ones and prepared correctly. A third member of our party had a hamburger and felt it was over done. Service was excellent. Space was slightly cold. We felt it was quite expensive compared to other options for lunch. It's priced similarly to Meritage (a nearby top restaurant in St. Paul), and there's really no comparison. But if you're at a meeting in the hotel, and someone else is paying for it, this is a good option.

I have really, really wanted to like this place. It's a fun concept with games, a beautiful bar, and a table that will put you right next to the cooks in the open kitchen. However, Rival House has so many flaws, its hard to look past the bad. The service is consistently poor. I have been in there at various times of the day. They always seem to have plenty of staff but no one motivated enough to offer speedy service. There appears to be management on the floor but the female manager I have seen is more interested in what is going on with her phone than with her staff. If this rating was based on service, it would get less than one star. The food is hit and miss. The fried green tomatoes are to die for while the fish and chips is a mouthful of old tasting grease. The burgers (if you don't get a stale bun) are tasty but the double batter chicken wings are more batter than chicken and suffer from the same old grease taste as the fish. Their Spicy Chicken pizza is about the best pizza I have ever had but their plain cheese pizza could use an additional variety of cheese to tone down the salty mozzarella. I love giving the locals my business but Rival House is going to have to rethink their staffing plan to bring me back.

Stopped in before one of wild playoff's game. There are lots of fun games to play and the pizza was delicious. Also, a lot of good beer on tap! Would highly recommend.

It's a pleasant space with a lot of potential. Still feels like a new restaurant which is working out how it wants to feel. Right now, it's got a kind of fun and casual feel. The games go a long way towards establishing a fun character. The food also goes with the attitude of the space. It's fun. It's interesting. And it's tasty. Wood fired oven pizza is the way to go, for me. Not to everyone's taste, but as a guy who grew up outside of New Haven, that style is the closest to a taste of home that I get. Crust was crispy and chewy, slightly singed, something to which I'm accustomed. I've had a lot of different pizza options, all of them are fun. Bahn Mi is the treat. The munchies are also quite good. Overall, it's tasty non-pretentious food with a pretty vast beer selection. That's all you need to keep me happy. As far as who I would bring here, my friends aren't too fancy and we are always all up for a good time. My parents also don't stand too much on ceremony and sometimes like a lively atmosphere. Could also be a good spot for business lunches if you're looking to break some tension. I could wear a suit and tie here, but wouldn't go here for a quiet night out. But then again, "quiet" and "night out" shouldn't be in anyone's vocabulary.

I've never had a beer cocktail till I tried The Petal Toss. If you love leinies summer shandy, you will be in heaven! The mixologist from Bradstreet put together the drink menu so you know you can't go wrong with any selection. If you are a fan of local craft beers this place has 24 on tap! Executive Chef Andy, also from Bradstreet puts out amazing plates in addition to the wood fired pizza. The deviled eggs, cheese curds and Cuban Reuben are a must! I also like that they have board games and card games you can check out from the hostess stand.

PING PONG! Solid pizza, good beer selection. Had a great server with braided blonde personality. My friends and I had a great time. Next Wild game I plan on stopping back in.

I have mixed feelings on the Rival House. It's a great bar by hotel bar standards but just an okay bar standing alone. The beer selection is solid and the bartenders are great. Service is consistently good at the bar but below average if you're at a table. My first time here I stood at the front desk waiting to be seated for 10 minutes until I just sat somewhere on my own. While I was at the desk, no one ever showed up. I listened to the phone ring for 4 minutes straight- never picked up! Kinda confounding to say the least. Game selection is a nice touch. Good board games to play at the table but the only bigger arcade games I found were table hockey and ski ball (both coin operated). I looked around but couldn't find where foosball, ping pong, shuffleboard might be hiding, there was a backroom locked up so perhaps they do exist. The food is fine but nothing overly impressive yet. Pizza is decent, wings are over-sauced, curds are good but flavor but lacking proper amount of cheese. I'll keep coming back each time I stay at the conjoined doubletree hotel, but this young establishment has some kinks to work out.

Great meal. Waitress was great. Lots of great activity. Host and Hostess need to show themselves too be in better moods. Really looked like someone shot their pet dog. Showing your patrons that you are having fun goes to them having fun.

This is a great spot for food, drinks and group gatherings. Lots of board games, video games, a giant Jenga and a ping pong room with 3 tables...very unique! A well rounded local beer list and plenty of choices on the menu. The cheese curds are the real deal. Our group shared pizza and the wood fire oven does a great job. The GF crust was cooked just right. Good to see management accommodating varied dietary needs. The karaoke started at 9:00 and kept a lively crowd going until 1 AM. Parking is easy and St.Paul needed a spot like this downtown.

Four of us met for an early dinner last Saturday night. Service was OK, took a long time before we saw a server, after that she appeared on a regular basis. Food was mixed Cheeseburger was good, done right according to my friend, good size. Breakfast pizza was good, but too much crust. Ginger chicken was very good, nice presentation and taste, though a little to much soy sauce. Fish and chips were poor; frozen, over salted skinny french fries and frozen, over battered, tasteless fish. Over all, average at best. They had a nice theme, including a room in the back with several ping pong tables, hadn't seen those in a while. The place looked modern, the normal stainless, decorated nicely. Biggest complaint was the noise. Sounded like a 1970's disco, thump-thiump-thump of bass over the speakers with poor acoustics, a fake attempt to project a 'high energy' atmosphere. We gave it a try, maybe come back for one of the pizzas one day. Too bad, we live 3 blocks away and are looking for a go to restaurant.

This is a cool place - where else can you play jenga or ping pong. But they really need to figure out the service aspect of the bar and restaurant business. Took forever to get served, long wait for the food and another long wait for the check. And it wasn't overly crowded and this isn't the first time. Have to admit the cheeseburger was excellent - but man figure out the service piece.
(3)D S.
The food we had was all excellent. Deviled eggs were good, salad was great and everybody else in the group really liked their food. But... The service was awful. It took about 20 minutes for everybody to get drinks, and then for whatever reason my iced tea took another 15. They came out with everybody else's and said "oh, we will be right back," that was definitely not the case. Same with another persons burger, which came out 20 minutes after everybody else's food. The staff was pretty much never around, it was impossible to get refills or order another drink. Our party mostly gave up and started getting drinks straight from the bar, though they were pretty slow also. They were not understaffed. I would say it was medium busy, not nuts and they had seemingly a ton of waitresses, but the waitresses just seemed really poorly trained. I hope they get better, but I don't think they will, the staff did not seem concerned and it didn't seem like there was any management presence.

What a disappointment. We've been waiting for the next great (or even good) restaurant in Saint Paul and this one really missed the mark for me. Their happy hour consists of $1 off tap beers...what about bottles, cocktails, wines and apps??? I don't want to pay $11 for dried up pork belly in the tiniest portion of food on a plate I've ever seen when I am trying a new spot. I deliberately went right after work so I could see what this place was all about for a reasonable price. Instead, I dropped $40 on two drinks, an app and a cup of soup. Just think of what I could have gotten at Kincaid's happy hour for that amount! The atmosphere is good, and I think the place could have some potential, but their focus right now is all wrong. They need to develop a decent happy hour menu and get people in the door. Then they need to cook good food. That was the saddest port belly I've ever had. It was pale in color, dried up, and tasteless. The only saving grace on the plate was the spicy slaw that came on the side. But even that wasn't worth $11. Maybe I'm turning into an old lady, but I like a deal and I LOVE good food. I'll pay for really good food. If that had been the best pork belly I'd ever eaten, I might be whistling a different tune, but it was terrible and I feel jipped. The tortilla soup was better; more flavorful and I would eat that again. The service wasn't wonderful. They left our dried up pork belly and soup in the kitchen window for over 5 minutes before they decided to bring it over, despite the fact it was slow in the restaurant. This is not the Bradstreet, and if you think it will be that level of quality, you will be sadly mistaken. I was so looking forward to these guys opening up Rival House because the Bradstreet was one of my favorite spots when I lived in Minneapolis. Now that I live in Lowertown, I want a go-to place to grab a drink and dinner. Rival House won't be that place for me.

This place is A-MAZING! We sat at the chefs table and got the best service! The food was ridiculously good. I recommend the cheese curds. Not your typical MN State Fair curds! We had the special...wood fire Ruben Pizza and the Greek pizza, both were great. The decor is bright and inviting. Bummer we are heading into fall since there is a patio to enjoy as well. All staff were attentive. Families around us were enjoying the games as well great place for the kiddos too!
(5)Tracey L.
My husband, kids and I stopped in here a few times for lunch and we enjoyed this spot. Our two teenagers stay easily entertained with games while our food order was in. I ordered the chop salad with a side of chili and I really found the salad to be outstanding. My husband and kids loved the Yankee pizza and double fried wings and admittedly, I ate A LOT of the wings too. Pizza is not greasy and and has the typical wood-fire feel which we enjoy. Pricing is mainstream, we didn't feel it was over the top or anything. We are not big drinkers but my husband loved the beer selection and the bartender was very informative. Overall, we will definitely visit again.
(4)Matt V.
Very fun place. Lots of fun board games (jenga) and others such as ski ball and bubble hockey. Free ping pong in the back! I go for the cocktails......and jenga.
(4)Kit K.
Three downtown residents, 6-ish dinner, all started out in a good mood to check this place out. So loud at this place from poor architectural acoustic planning for this space, two tables of crying/fussy children (hotel guests?). Staff is friendly but stopping by table to be chatty was a bit much. Food: let's talk grease! I had fish; heavily battered and dripping with grease. Looked like big portions until I started to peel away the greasy breading and found very small fish parts with not much taste. I will say the tarter sauce is spicy and I needed/appreciated it. Grilled cheese with onion and specialty cheese and roasted onion on sourdough bread; let's talk grease again! And bread was so thin and not like sourdough it became soggy with grease..cheese has fat but did they over butter bread or what? Friend thought about sending back for a pizza but from what we saw they looked dry and burnt. Not much else on menu for a hungry vegetarian ....so she ate her French fries and left the sandwich lay wallowing in grease. Bison Burger; 'not that bad', "'ok but tastes like what a hotel sends up for room service' - quotes from the guy in our group. The beer was local and good. I can't see that any of us would go back when downtown St. Paul has so many other 'good for sure' places to eat. Too bad as it's only a two block walk from our building where we live.
(2)Jennifer L.
Wonderful food prepared to perfection! Can't go wrong with wood fire pizza. Happy hour prices are amazing and there are too many craft beers to count. Games add a new and fun touch to a meal out. Will be returning again and again!
(5)Connie D.
Disappointed!!! Burnt bottom pizza yet pizza was cold - margarita. Plain Jane pizza was super salty. Kids Mac and cheese was small and not tasty at all. Expected there to be more games. One of the games ate our money so we asked our server for help, instead of helping us, she sent us to the bar. The bar tender didn't know what to do and sent ME to find the manager. Manger finally returned our money. Definitely won't be returning and will not recommend.
(1)Andrea C.
Good beer selection. Pizzas were flavorful but crust was a bit soft for my preference. Sat outside and they allow smoking, so that interfered with the food flavors. Service was slow. Wish it was more of a local clientele, but mostly people from the hotel or wedding outcasts.
(3)Mitch U.
Good food but since it was opening day service was a little slow. I am more referring to the kitchen rather than slow service. Our server was very nice. I would suggest they add signage for restrooms because you didn't know where they were.
(4)Eileen S.
Enjoyed lunch today. Wishing it was a rainy Saturday so I could spend the afternoon drinking good beer and playing games. Friendly staff. Tasty ice tea. We had the Cuban Reuben, Italian sandwich and shared Cesar side salad. All lots of flavor. Homemade chips were amazing. Highly recommend them with the house dip. We'll be back.
(5)Roman S.
One word: inconsistent. The place was crawling with service staff, and our service started out impressively but, after getting our food, nothing. I intentionally avoided calling our server over to see how things would go. He finally reappeared to ask if we needed anything else, but only after we had finished eating and sat there for another 25 minutes! (Obviously you'd better not be in a rush at this place.) Some of the food was exceptional, other food was dull. I wouldn't return for the pizza. The crust thickness varied significantly, even within the same slice, and the flavor of our 2 pizzas was fairly dull. I would recommend the appetizers. The cheese curds where lightly battered and the cheese was gooey soft. The chorizo deviled eggs had a nice peppery seasoning and good flavor. Inconsistent with the previous post, my pork belly was the best I've had! They had a thin layer of charred crispiness, but were perfectly tender on the inside, with just the perfect ratio of fat and meat. The corn slaw added excellent creaminess to the pork, but lacked any spice, which was really disappointing. The beer selection was above average. The inconsistent food and inconsistent service make me hesitant to go back. There are so many other dependably-great choices in the city. Rival House will need to step it up a notch.
(2)Laurie T.
Food quality is good. The space and service was good too. I went there for lunch and had a very tasty Chop Salad. One comment is that some of the beets were cooked through and others were VERY crunchy. It was an adequate portion for lunch, but CRAZY EXPENSIVE for a salad served in about an 8 inch bowl for $13. I'm sure they have some items that are a better value, but either the portion size need to be much bigger or the price needs to be more reasonable for what you get.
